About This Place

Located at 888 Old San Francisco Rd in Sunnyvale, Shanghai Flavor Shop offers an authentic taste of Shanghai’s rich culinary heritage right in the heart of Silicon Valley. Specializing in Chinese and Dumpling cuisine, this cozy restaurant draws food lovers who crave traditional flavors paired with skillful preparation.

Shanghai Flavor Shop’s standout dish is undoubtedly their Pan Fried Pork Bun. As echoed by many patrons, including loyal fan Sean Nguyen, the buns deliver a perfect balance of texture—the delicate crispiness from the well-fried bottoms coupled with the pillowy softness of the steamed tops. Bite into one and you’re greeted with a warm, savory soup that bursts in your mouth, an experience both comforting and indulgent. The carefully seasoned pork filling inside is juicy and tender, enhanced perfectly by a careful frying technique that seals in flavor and texture.

Other popular menu items that illustrate the restaurant’s mastery over classic Shanghai dishes include the Shredded Pork Noodle with Green Onion Sauce, appreciated for its harmonious blend of tender pork and a fragrant, savory onion sauce that coats each strand of noodle with rich umami. Fans like Derek Nguyen repeatedly rave about this dish’s satisfying depth of flavor and comforting warmth.

For those seeking variety, the menu also features comforting staples like Won Ton Soup, Thick Chow Mein, and the unique Black Pork Noodle Soup. Vegetable lovers can indulge in Baby Chinese Green in Oyster Sauce, while adventurous palates might enjoy the Rice Ball Wine Soup or Shanghai Rice Cakes. To complement the robust flavors, Shanghai Flavor Shop offers refreshing drinks such as Tsingtao Beer and fragrant Jasmine Tea.

Whether dining in or opting for takeout, the experience is consistently satisfying. Customers like Vincent Tang note prompt service with a 15 to 20 minute wait for takeout orders, ensuring their food arrives warm and freshly prepared. The atmosphere carries the feel of an authentic Shanghai breakfast spot brought to life in California, providing a genuine cultural and culinary escape for longtime locals and visitors alike, as Peter C attests.

In essence, Shanghai Flavor Shop encapsulates the soul of Shanghai street food with quality, flavor, and authenticity. Each bite invites you into a world of vivid textures and bold tastes—the perfect destination for those craving a genuine culinary journey through Shanghai’s revered breakfast and dumpling traditions.

The go to here is pan fried pork buns and shredded pork noodle with green onion sauce. I think there is dine in option too but I had it take out. Yummy! The buns are hot and it has a little soup in it. The noodles are well mixed especially with the onion sauce. Delicious. I would come back for more.

I had a to-go order and ordered the Pork Fried Rice and Pan Fried Pork Bun. It was timely with a 15 to 20 minute wait. I highly reccommend the Pan Fried Pork Bun. It had a mixture of soft and crispiness with the surprise soup inside. It stayed warm for a long time. The fried rice was okay. I wouldn't reccommend eating it alone like in other chinese restaurants. Overall, it was fairly tasty at the right price. I would definitely come back.

Pan fried pork buns is one of my favorite dish from Shanghai. The crispness of the bottom to the softness of the top from the steam. The pork the perfectly cooked in the middle with the heat from the oil from the frying. The chili and vinegar adds so much flavor and it's bursting in your mouth. I love sucking out the soup. Still love going to this place in Sunnyvale, CA. Check them out, they have a full menu with other items too. Shanghai Flavor Shop, Sunnyvale,
